The Northwest Hills of Austin

We partner with over 990 Sotheby’s real estate offices in 72 countries. Each month we showcase a home from one of these partners. Our feature home this month is located in Austin, TX.

Austin, the capitol city of Texas, has more recently earned the title “Silicon Valley of the South” or Silicon Hills due to the large number of high-tech companies that are located in its hilly terrain. Austin is also home to the University of Texas, the state’s second largest university. Residents and visitors alike hold in high regard Austin’s vibrant music and arts scene. With an average of 228 sunny days per year and countless opportunities for outdoor recreation, it’s no wonder that Austin is a very active and fit city.

Located in Austin’s Northwest Hills—5838 Westlope Drive is a gorgeous, one-story home with breathtaking, panoramic views of Lake Austin, the Pennybacker Bridge, and surrounding terrain from nearly every room. Recently renovated, the home offers a blend of sleek, modern materials, and warm woods. The main living area is naturally light and bright with walls of windows that frame gorgeous views. Interior features include wide-plank brushed oak floors, custom cabinetry and quartz counters in kitchens and baths, Bosch appliances, designer lighting and plumbing fixtures, and a quartz surrounded gas fireplace. The dreamy master bath has a walk-in closet, soaking tub, and rimless glass-enclosed marble shower. Outside, two decks extend the living space and offer the ideal setting to relax and retreat.

Make Your Home's Storage Space Shine

Nothing says this house doesn’t have enough storage space like overstuffed closets and cabinets

Yes, buyers really do look in the closets and cabinets. When people are shopping for a new home, you can expect that most will peer into your closets, cabinets, pantry, and other storage areas to ensure that your home has sufficient storage space. One of the most effective ways you can get your home ready for the sales market is to reduce the amount of items in your storage space. When a potential buyer opens your bedroom closet and sees enough space between the hanging clothes that it would be easy to add a few more articles of clothing, that sends a very strong message that your home has ample closet space.

Ideally you want every storage area in your home to have enough room to easily add a few more additional items. Is there room in the pantry to unload the groceries? Is there room in the kitchen cabinets to put away the clean dishes? Is there room in your built-in shelving to add a few new books? If not, you’ll want to declutter any jam-packed storage spaces before you put your house on the market. If you’ve lived in your home for several years or more, chances are that you’ve accumulated a number of unused or rarely used belongings. These should be the first thing to pack up. If you cannot bear to part with these items , the best thing to do is pack them up, label the boxes, and place them in an offsite storage site. This will actually save you time later on when you’re ready to move.

If this task feels overwhelming to you physically or emotionally, we recommend enlisting the help of a supportive friend or family member. There are also professional moving companies and professional home stagers who specialize in decluttering homes before sale. All of our agents are well-experienced in this process and are happy to give you further advice and excellent recommendations on how to best prepare your home so it shines.
